What to Write in a New Baby Card

Congratulations for the new parents -heartfelt, funny and short. Make them yours, then put them in a card they'll keep.

A new baby card is for the parents as much as the baby. The lines below are grouped by tone and relationship -use them as a starting point and add something personal. Acknowledging the parents, not just the arrival, is what makes a message land in those tired, joyful first weeks.

Heartfelt

"Welcome to the world, little one -and congratulations to two people who are going to be wonderful at this."

"So much love to your growing family. What a lucky baby, to be born to the two of you."

"Wishing you sleepless nights that are worth every minute, and a lifetime of love. Congratulations."

"Your little one is here, and the world is a little brighter for it. Congratulations to you both."

Funny

"Congratulations! Sleep was nice while it lasted. Wishing you lots of coffee and tiny socks."

"Welcome to parenthood -where the days are long, the nights are longer, and your heart's never been fuller."

"A huge congratulations. May your baby sleep through the night sooner than anyone dares to hope."

"So happy for you both. Remember: you can't spoil a newborn, but you can absolutely spoil yourselves with takeaway."

For the parents

"You two are going to be amazing parents -you already are. Congratulations on your beautiful baby."

"Be gentle with yourselves in these early days. You're doing better than you think. So proud of you both."

"Watching you become parents is one of the great joys. Sending so much love to all three of you."

"Whatever you need -a meal, a nap, a hand -we're here. Congratulations and welcome to the little one."

From the team or office

"Congratulations from all of us! Enjoy every moment of your leave -work will still be here, we promise."

"Wonderful news! The whole team is thrilled for you. Wishing your growing family health and happiness."

"So happy for you both. Soak up this special time -we can't wait to meet the newest addition."

"Warmest congratulations from everyone here. Sending love to you and your beautiful new baby."

For a second or third baby

"Congratulations on growing your lovely family! The big sibling is going to be brilliant."

"More love, more noise, more joy. So happy for all of you on your newest arrival."

"Wishing your family every happiness as you welcome another little one. Congratulations!"

"Your family just got even more wonderful. Sending love to everyone, big and small."

Short and simple

"Congratulations on your beautiful baby!"

"So happy for your growing family. Sending love."

"Welcome to the world, little one."

"Wishing you all health, happiness and lots of cuddles."

Tips for writing a new baby message

Include the parents

Congratulate them, not just the baby. A line acknowledging the journey to get here means a lot.

Offer something concrete

"Let me know if you need anything" is kind but vague. "I'll bring dinner round next week" is the kind of help new parents remember.

Keep it light if you're not sure

If you don't know the family well, a warm, simple congratulations is always right -no need to overthink it.

Welcome the little one with a card they'll keep.
